CONCORD UNIVERSITY’S ARTIST LECTURE SERIES TO FEATURE ORGANIST DANIEL SPURGEON

ATHENS, WV – Concord University’s Fine Arts & Communications Department presents an organ concert with Daniel Spurgeon on Tuesday, February 20th at 7:00 pm in the Anderson Family Theatre of the Alexander Fine Arts Center. Daniel is the Choir Master and Organist at the Beckley United Methodist Temple. This concert is part of the University’s Artist Lecture Series.

The recital program will include hymns, a Sousa March, classical selections, and more. The University’s organ was installed in 1968 and has 42 ranks and 2,236 pipes. Significant renovations to the University’s organ have been completed over the past 10 years thanks to funding provided by former University President Dr. Joseph F. Marsh.

Daniel holds degrees in music education and organ performance from Marshall University and has additional training from the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory, Westminster Choir College, and with the French organist Daniel Roth. He has performed in Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Austria, and Germany. Daniel was also a prize winner in a competition sponsored by the American Guild of Organists.

No tickets are required, and the event is free to the public. For more information on the performance contact Dr. Jacob Womack at 304-384-5306 or email him at jwomack@concord.edu.
