Major in Theatre

In the fall of 2024, students will be able to enroll in the Interdisciplinary Studies Major in Theatre. The Concord University Theatre Program will provide students with unique opportunities to be a part of engaging stage productions that entertain the campus community, as well as audiences throughout the region. For our degree in Theatre, students will take courses focusing on Acting, Design, Technology, Directing, Theory, and other areas of special interest. Students will also gain valuable experience through hands-on involvement in campus productions and independent projects.

The Theatre Program provides students with the instruction, facilities, equipment, and opportunities necessary to develop their skills, abilities, and theoretical/historical perspectives in their chosen area of specialization. We believe that the best theatre experience is not only about the show but also about the networking and friendships made throughout the production process. Between rehearsals, performances, and our theatre honor society, Alpha Psi Omega, our students find a welcoming community in which to explore and grow while pursuing their academic goals.

The Theatre Major has three distinct tracks for students to choose from:

  • Track 1: The Voice track will prepare students for professional auditions for both plays and musicals. Students could also use this training to pursue graduate degrees in acting and directing.
  • Track 2: The Business Administration track will prepare students for managing theatrical companies as Artistic Directors, General Managers, or Production Managers. Students could also use this training to pursue graduate degrees in Theatre Management.
  • Track 3: The Art and Design Track will prepare students as Theatrical Designers in the areas of Scenic, Costume, Lighting, and Technical Direction. Students could also use this training to pursue graduate degrees in design.

Minor in Theatre

While receiving a minor in Theatre, students will take courses focusing on Acting, Design, Technology, Directing, Theory, and other areas of special interest.  Students will also gain valuable experience through hands-on involvement in campus productions and independent projects.

We believe that the best theatre experience is not only about the show but also about the networking and friendships made throughout the production process. Between rehearsals, performances, and our theatre honor society, Alpha Psi Omega, our students find a welcoming community in which to explore and grow while pursuing their academic goals.

We are excited to have you come and join our theatre family!
